Low Angle Rope Rescue: This is an entry level class for beginners and more experienced rope rescue personnel. This class meets and exceeds the National Fire Protection Associations’ (NFPA) Awareness Level for rope rescue standards outlined in 1006 &1670. Class begins with a thorough equipment familiarization and safety lecture on Friday night then moves to “hands-on” Saturday morning and Sunday. More Information and Scheduling click here Rope Rescue Technician I: This is the second in a series of weekend courses in Rope Rescue conducted by PRS, Inc. which is sponsored by TARS. The Class begins Friday night with safety review then moves on to anchoring and rigging for rappelling and belaying techniques, self rescue and passing knots on rappel. Saturday begins with rappelling pick-offs then moves on to lowering and raising pick-offs using mechanical advantage systems. Sunday begins with rappelling, switching to ascending and back to rappelling using some basic equipment and Sunday afternoon we will learn to pass knots through mechanical advantage systems. More Information and Scheduling click here Rope Rescue Technician II: This is the third in a series of weekend courses in rope rescue conducted by Progressive Rescue Solutions, Inc. which is sponsored by Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads. After completing this course in the series the student will meet NFPA 1006 & 1670 standards for operations level in rope rescue. Class begins Friday night with vertical stretcher rigging, litter tender rigging and practicing patient tie-in to the litter while the rescuer and rigging is suspended. Saturday brings all of what the students have learned in Low Angle Rope Rescue and Rope Technician I in order to perform several High Angle Vertical Stretcher Rescue Scenarios. Sunday we will do more of the same then students will complete a written test pertaining to all three classes in the series. More Information and Scheduling click here Low Angle, Rope Rescue Technician I/II: This is a week long course Monday-Friday that includes Low angle Rope Rescue, Rope Rescue Technician I and Rope Rescue Technician II. It is usually more convenient for some departments, due to scheduling, who wish their personnel to be “operational” in rope rescue. More Information and Scheduling click here Rope Rescue Technician III: This is the fourth in a series of weekend courses in rope rescue conducted by Progressive Rescue solutions, Inc. which is sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads. The class, however, is longer than just the weekend as it will be Thursday-Sunday. Those personnel wishing to meet the NFPA Rope Rescue Technician level according to standards 1006 & 1670 will meet those requirements after completing this course. The class will “put to the test” all of the skills and knowledge that students have experienced in previous courses in order to perform various rope rescue scenarios. Several different highline techniques will be taught along with pendulum techniques which relate to water rescue, confined space rescue, cave rescue, tower rescue, trench rescue, industrial rescue, mountain rescue and more. Every day will be a new site which could include water falls, mountainous terrain, caves or buildings. More Information and Scheduling click here Group Rappelling and Rope Ascending Packages: This program is conducted by Mountain Rope Safety Courses (MRSC) and is open to the general public. It is for those people who may just want to take friends, family, corporate personnel, youth groups or scouts for a fun day outdoors. Some groups like to go for the 8 hour trip which includes hiking to a bluff line, learning to rappel down a cliff and then trying to ascend up back up a bluff on a rope! MRSC uses a separate rope for safety so participants can feel a little safer while enjoying these activities. More Information and Scheduling click here Recreational Rappelling & Rigging Course: This is a class open to the general public. It is an actual structured class in order to learn how to rig their own rappel and belay systems for recreational use conducted by Mountain Rope Safety Courses. Class begins Saturday morning with equipment familiarization, safety procedures and knot tying. We then move outside for anchoring techniques and rappelling with various devices. Sunday we will go out into the field and hike to the bluffs in order to practice your new skills. More Information and Scheduling click here Basic Tactical Rappelling: This class teaches the beginner and the more experienced rappellar techniques used in various types of rappelling situations that a tactician may be required to perform. Class begins Saturday with equipment familiarization, safety procedures, knot tying and communication procedures, anchoring techniques, belay techniques, rappelling with various descent devices, checking of equipment and filling out history logs on equipment. Sunday, students will rappel from a high point rig, mid-point rig and low point rig, through a 2 X 2 hole (if available), locking off, self rescue techniques, strong and weak hand braking while descending rope and inverting while on rappel. Students will be required to take a written test reviewing the last two days of training. More Information and Scheduling click here Advanced Tactical Rappelling: This course is a very intensive 2 ˝ days of training in order to prepare law enforcement special operations personnel, advanced tactical rappelling techniques that can be applicable to certain missions. The class begins Friday evening with a review of safety procedures and students demonstrating their skills learned in the basic tactical rappelling class such as knots, anchoring techniques, use of descent devices in rappelling operations that night and equipment check. Saturday morning students will begin raising and lowering operations, quick evacuation rescues and raising partner techniques. By the afternoon they will don full tactical gear and begin rappelling using covert rope deployment, tactical edge roll-offs, window surveillance techniques and full window entries. Sunday begins with continuing operations not completed on Saturday along with learning rope ascending techniques in full tactical gear. Students will be required to take a written test that reviews the past days training.
