River Rope Rescue:
Conducted by Progressive Rescue Solutions, Inc. and is sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads (TARS). Following the NFPA 1670, 1006 Standards and the philosophy of the TARS; Swift Water Instructors & Rope Instructors this class brings all of the rescuers’ training from Swift Water II (operational) and Rope Rescue Technician together in order to successfully complete the Swift Water Rescue Technician requirements. The TARS Swift Water Instructors have provided 50-60 hours of strictly water based training meeting the operational standards for swift water and the Rope Instructors have provided 80-100 hours of technical rope training meeting the Technician standard for rope rescue. We are very proud of the our rescuers who strive to perfect their skills so this class is now available to put all those skills together in order to meet the Swift Water Rescue Technician level of training. Only those rescuers who have completed the TARS Swift Water II and Progressive Rescue Solutions Rope Rescue Technician classes may attend. No Exceptions!
Topics Covered: Safety, relating rope rescue techniques to water based applications,
pendulums, simple highlines, dropping highlines, river left to river right directional
movement on highlines, up river and down river directional movement on highlines utilizing
a boat, pick-off stranded victim utilizing highlines and Reeves techniques, multiple
rescue scenarios using these various techniques and students must demonstrate command
capabilities and operational techniques learned from previous courses in order to control river
right and river left sectors.
Note: Hopefully students will not have to swim in this class but students will take turns manning safety stations where needed!
Student Requirements: The student will provide their own personal floatation device Swift Water Type V, dive/rescue hard sheath knife, Swift Water rescue helmet or vented climbing helmet, water rescue gloves and a tight fitting pair of leather gloves, diving booties hard sole, sturdy boots to protect ankles during shore work; Students should bring appropriate clothing for weather conditions (i.e. rain, cold),
protection for eyes, knee pads, elbow pads and be ready for a great deal of physical activities, as well as provide your own food and drinks and vehicle to drive to sites.
PRS, Inc. & TARS: Will provide all harnesses, helmets, lights, handouts, Prusik material, ropes, webbing and all other gear in order to conduct the class. A letter of confirmation along with directions upon registration & payment for class will be sent to student.
Certifications: PRS, Inc.& TARS will provide a certificate of completion and 1 C.E.U.
