Rope Rescue Technician I/II This is a week long course (Approx. 50 hours) which is conducted by Progressive Rescue Solutions, Inc. which is sponsored by Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads. This is a week long course Monday-Friday that includes Low angle Rope Rescue, Rope Rescue Technician I and Rope Rescue Technician II. It is usually more convenient for some departments, due to scheduling, who wish their personnel to be “operational” in rope rescue. Class begins Monday with equipment familiarization, safety lecture, knot tying, anchoring techniques, low angle stretcher preparation, patient tie-n to litter and raising/lowering mechanical advantage systems. Tuesday students perform low angle rescues in the morning hours. After lunch, the students rig their own rappelling and belay stations, learn rappelling techniques, locking off on rappel and self rescue techniques. Wednesday, students will pass knots on rappel, rappel then switch to ascending and back to rappel. After lunch, students will begin rappelling pick-offs and pick-offs using raising/lowering mechanical advantage systems. We will then break for supper and reconvene two hours later to begin vertical stretcher rigging, litter tender rigging and practicing patient tie-in to the litter while the rescuer and vertical stretcher rigging are suspended.Thursday, students will perform multiple high angle litter rescues all day. Friday, class begins with passing knots through the raising/lowering mechanical advantage systems then has an introduction to utilizing highlines in rope rescue. Students will be required to complete a written test reviewing all of the topics from the past week in class. After completing this intensive week of training the student will meet NFPA 1006 & 1670 standards for operations level in rope rescue and will be allowed to move on to the Rope Rescue Technician III class. Student Requirements:Students should bring appropriate clothing for weather conditions (i.e. rain, cold), a tight fitting pair of leather gloves, boots to protect ankles, protection for eyes, knee knee pads, elbow pads and be ready for a great deal of physical activities, as well as provide your own food and drinks. PRS, Inc.: Will provide all harnesses, helmets, lights, handouts, Prusik material, ropes, webbing and all other gear in order to conduct the class. Students are welcome to bring their own equipment but it must be approved by the instructor before it can be used in in class. A letter of confirmation along with directions upon registration & payment for class will be sent to student. Certifications: PRS, Inc. will provide a certificate of completion and the TN. Assoc. of Rescue Squads will provide certificate of completion through the Rescue College as well as 1 C.E.U. upon completion of the class.
